Some of the best memories I have are of the times spent with my father and uncle camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. At camp every day was a new adventure filled with the smells of wood fires, the earthy scent of the brush and woods and vension stew. I learned alot at the hunting camp such as cooking, tracking plus respecting the outdoors and everything it contains. I saw the outdoors as a big experience where we learned about ourselves and the world around us. We were taught how to live, and how to survive and in the process learned about who we are and what we are capable of. All the lessons my father taught me about being in the outdoors remain as relivent today as they were then. I plan to pass these lessonson to my grandchildren when they are ready.
I knew that my world made sense to me while at camp. We were taught the basics skills like chopping firewood so we could cook our food and stay warm at night. We fished so we would have a variety of things to eat for dinner, and we slept out under the stars sometimes so we could observe the starry night sky and wonder about the vast universe and all its beauty. The food never tasted as good, and the sky was never as clear. So began my craving the Great Outdoors.
